A stash of high quality and easy-to-use tools is absolutely essential for any sewist or quilter, but sometimes, it can be difficult to know where to start. If you've been looking for a brilliant ruler to help you create the most precise cuts possible, then this is the blog post for you.
We're introducing the fabulous Threaders 12.5" x 12.5" Folding Ruler - a unique tool that can provide you with accurate measurements for cutting lines, squares, triangles and so much more. Make sure you have a read of this post to find out how it works.
What is the 12.5" x 12.5" Folding Ruler?
As the name would suggest, this is a ruler with a folding capability, measuring 12.5" x 12.5", but there is so much more to be discovered about this essential piece of equipment!
The design of the folding square ruler has cleverly included gridlines to make cutting squares, rectangles, half-square triangles and even quarter-square triangles easy. It has never been more simple to square off fabric or cut fabric blocks to size!
The 12.5" square shape means that the ruler is perfect for cutting 12" quilt blocks with a 0.25" seam allowance. Thanks to the folding mechanism, this ruler can also be folded in half to cut half-square triangles from 2" high up to 8" high, and quarter-square triangles from 2" high to 11" high. There are even markings included to omit the dog ear from one corner, removing a step from the sewing or quilting process for you.
The foldable nature of the ruler also offers a compact and convenient option for storage and portability, making it ideal for crafting on the go.
Are there any measurement references available?
We've got some brilliant measurement references stored on our handy Folding Ruler information page, so if you're a bit of a beginner in sewing or quilting, make sure you take a look to get your head around the measurements needed for different shapes.
How do you use the Threaders 12.5" x 12.5" Folding Ruler?
The Folding Ruler features a clear side and a pink side, which looks pretty, but it also serves a purpose. By opening the ruler out into a square, it can be used as a regular ruler by following the gridlines. However, once it is folded together and flipped on to the pink side, a tighter grid is formed with extra dashed lines to help you create half square triangles!
Each of the dashed lines is numbered, which corresponds to an inch length. For example, if you had a 2" strip, you would use the second dashed line to help you create the correct half square triangle.
