Flowers, chocolates, and breakfast in bed. Mother’s Day is the one day a year where we can really pay it back to our mums and show them how much they mean to us. But after years of flowers and “World’s Best Mum” mugs, we think it’s time for a change.

Wherever you are, it’s never too early to start crafting for that special day. So read on to feel inspired by some crafts for Mother’s Day that think outside of the (gift) box and will help her to feel extra special this year.

What can I craft for Mother’s Day?

If you’re looking for inspiration for Mother’s Day arts and crafts, we’ve got just the project for you. From papercraft to quilting, check out our recommendations for the perfect gifts to show mum how wonderful she is. Check out our Mother’s Day craft section for some fun craft supplies to help you get started!

1. Handmade cards

An absolute classic craft and the perfect way to let her know you’ve been thinking of her, making mum a handmade card is easy and affordable. You can personalise the card to her tastes and turn it into a keepsake she’ll want to display for years to come.

If you’re new to cardmaking don’t worry! You can use a ready made card blank and decorate with toppers, sentiments, decorations and stamps. For more experienced makers there are so many beautiful dies to choose from and why not try a unique gatefold card? Pick up everything you need for cardmaking from our papercraft section to make the perfect Mother’s Day card crafts!

2. Craft her some flowers that’ll never wilt

Giving a beautiful bouquet is a wonderful gesture and never goes unappreciated, however, fresh-cut flowers never last as long as we’d like them to. Instead of giving mum fresh flowers this year, why not make some that will last forever?

You’ll need some specialist supplies and equipment such as flower forming foam but the process is easy and really effective. Check out our Ultimate Guide to Making Craft Flowers for all of the information you could need on making beautiful 3D flowers for cards and present toppers.

3. Baby dribble bib

Sometimes the mum you’re gifting isn’t your own. Whether she’s your partner, friend, or family member, why not try your hand at stitching a matching dribble bib and dummy-saver? This craft makes the perfect present to give from their little one and is the perfect present for any new mums in your life.
You’ll only need a few supplies to make this matching set – all of which can be found in our sewing and needlecraft section. The tutorial is easy to follow and simple to create so even beginner sewists can craft  something special in no time!

4. Super scrunchie

A great way to use up some pretty fat quarters of fabric is to make a handmade hair scrunchie. These scrunchies can be made without a sewing machine, just with a needle and thread, so are great for beginners or for those who don’t own a sewing machine.

Choose any design of fabric to suit her style and follow the instructions on our tutorial on how to stitch your own scrunchie to create a fun, pretty, heartfelt hair accessory that any mum will wear with pride.

5. DIY herb garden

If your mum loves to cook, there’s nothing better than fresh herbs. From parsley to dill, rosemary to thyme, growing herbs is easy and making a custom herb garden for her is a great way to bring some colour and flavour into her kitchen.

Head to your local garden centre to grab some pots and herbs. Terracotta pots will work great for this craft but feel free to work with what you already have. Pick up a set of Spectrum Noir Acrylic Paint Markers – these permanent paint markers can write and draw on almost any surface and are the perfect pens for using on plant pots as they won’t wash off.

Draw, write, and decorate the pots to create a personalised gift for your mum and let them fully dry before filling them with soil and the herbs ready to set out on a sunny window sill.
